Out of Sight, Out of Mind

“Out of sight, out of mind”, an old saying we’ve heard all of our lives, and for me it is often true. I have to keep things that need to be dealt with (like bills!) out where that I can see them so that I don’t forget about them.

Pharaoh kinda did the same thing, except it was a bigger deal. Moses and Aaron had approached him, for the second time, requesting he let the Israelites free from captivity so that they could worship, and Pharaoh was more than hard headed about the issue. Moses and Aaron followed what God commanded them and turned all of the water into blood.

Can you imagine what kind of sight this was? ALLLL of the water was turned to blood, the entire Nile River, even the water in the pots and bowls. Blood was everywhere!

Then Pharaoh did something that astounded me – Exodus 7:23

Pharaoh returned to his palace and put the whole thing out of his mind.

He put the whole thing out of his mind! He what?!?! There was blood everywhere the people turned, and he just went to his room, shut the door, and turned on the TV so to speak. Out of sight, out of mind…..

Hmmm – don’t we do the same thing?

The Holy Spirit convicts us of something that we know needs to change, and in that minute of realization, we completely agree, but we walk away from that moment and never think of it again.

We drive home from church, eat lunch, turn on the TV, or whatever it is we do, and never think of it again.

Are our hearts hardened as Pharaoh’s was?

I pray not.

The thing is, just because the situation was out of sight and out of mind didn't mean it was resolved.  There was still a bloody mess out there and the Israelites still had not been set free, but Pharaoh refused to deal with it, and low and behold, Moses and Aaron didn't go away.  Our situations or struggles that we put out of sight, out of mind don't go away either, there comes a point when we have to deal with them and there is much less pain if they are dealt with sooner than later.  Let's take a lesson from Pharaoh here and not put what God reveals to us out of sight, out of mind.

My challenge to you today is to go back to the place where God revealed something to you, and follow through. Begin this day anew.

Don't put it out of sight, out of mind.

Our Great God, renew our minds to the places of change you have revealed to us and give us willing hearts to follow after what your desire for us is. Don’t allow us to be out of sight, out of mind people. You desire more for us and your desires are best. Take us back to that place of agreement with you.

  2. as I sit and began to read this, I was in the middle of a texting conversation with my friend....about what God keeps hunting me down to do, but yet, I debate, your blog last week, her change of focus, still my actions were nothing. out of site, out of mind...but not really. God is hunting me down. and as we (my dear friend and I) this new study together, there was a challenge, to make a drastic diffrence in my daily life to give God fresh opportunity to prove Himself, and it was as if God was saying, Here is your chance! Seek Me! not what is in the world! So...I open this...and its O so clear. I dont like my arguing, rebelling child of God attitude. I am so thankful He chases me down like a good parent
