He began speaking from a whirlwind, of all things, and as He spoke He listed question after question for Job as He described Himself. It was those descriptions of Himself that clutched my attention and held it for a while. He starts of in verses 2&3 quite boldy, if I do say so myself -
Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.
Brace yourself like a man - that'll make you sit up a little straighter, huh! Job had asked so many questions about God through his suffering, that God decided it was His turn to do some questioning.
Here are just a few of the questions that God asked Job from the whirlwind, there are many more in Job 38 and 39, take a look for yourself, they are so thought provoking. Although these were questions for Job, they were answers about God's characteristics at the same time:
- Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. (v4)
- Do you know where the gates of death are located? Have you seen the gates of utter gloom? (v17)
- Do you realize the extent of the earth? Tell me about it if you know! (v18)
- Where does light come from, and where does darkness go? Can you take each to its home? Do you know how to get there? (v19-20)
- Can you shout to the clouds and make it rain? (v34)
- Who gives intuition to the heart and instinct to the mind? (v36)
- Who can tilt the water jars of heaven? (v37)
- Have you given the horse its strength or clothed its neck with a flowing mane? (39 v19)
Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God's critic, but do you have the answers?Would someone pick my jaw up off of the floor?! I think Job was probably speechless too, given his response -
I am nothing -- how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand. I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.
Now listen to me as I smack the top of my thigh in excitement, that very same God Almighty who is the answer to every one of those questions, is my Answer to everything. He is the One who, even though He possesses immeasurable strength and power, holds a special, tender place in His heart for you.

ReplyDeleteHere's some thoughts from Julia Meyer, she asked me to pass them along to you all for her.
ReplyDeleteLast Friday night my husband took me to my first ever truck and tractor pulls in Murray. By the way girls, this is definitely a RED-NECK sport – WOW! A bunch of guys and even a girl or two with expensive motors in trucks or tractors pulling a sled (on packed sand) where the weight shifts making it harder to pull.
As I sat there with my fingers in my ears watching this spectacle, God began to speak to me (yes I realized that red-neck sports are not exempt from God’s presence). I realized that this was a picture of our lives (I know it’s a stretch)! The truck/tractor is a picture of us, full of power and ready to go forward and conquer. The sled is the picture of our life. It’s not too bad most days and we can pull and continue forward but the farther we go – the heavier our burdens become and the harder it is to continue forward until all at once we realize that we are just spinning our wheels in the sand and going nowhere because we are carrying all that weight. God reminded me that it doesn’t have to be that way because with HIM in our lives, he will unhook the heavy weighted sled and we will once again be free to move forward. He will make our load light and let me tell you – WE WIN!!!! I am so grateful that He speaks to me and is with me each and every day moving me forward!
snatur - I'm glad you enjoyed it. We have Testify Tuesday every other week. Is there a specific subject you are interested in? Let me know and I'll do my best to find them for you.
ReplyDelete"The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent" Ex. 14:14 We can rest, because our Heavenly Father will take up for us & we don't have to say a word!!! He is before us, beside us, behind us doing battle with the enemy. Great verse!!! Carla O.
