Overshadowed

And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God.”
Matthew 2:35

Those were the words of the angel, Gabriel, to Mary. The power of the Most High would overshadow her and as a result of His overshadowing, she would birth Jesus. A virgin birth. A birth impossible without the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Did you know the same is possible for us? That is, if we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit and allow His power to move within us. If we allow the power of God to overshadow us, we, when surrendered to His power, birth Jesus into this world everyday.

Did you realize that?

We can birth Jesus into the lives of people through our words, our actions, our gifts, our abilities, even through our difficult situations.

Not only was Mary given the opportunity to birth the Savior into the world, but in a sense, we are given that opportunity with each moment of our lives. The Holy Spirit is always there waiting for the permission to speak to us, speak through us, and direct us on our paths as we come into contact with other people.

And you shall call his name Jesus.

Jesus at your workplace.

Jesus at the grocery store.

Jesus at the very busy, insanely crazy toy store during this Christmas shopping season (even if someone runs into you with their shopping cart).

Jesus at the post office.

Jesus to your kids.

Jesus to your husband.

Jesus to that person who may be a little “different” than you.

Let’s read those words again:

And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God.”
Matthew 2:35

Will you let the Holy Spirit come upon you? Will you allow the power of the Most High to overshadow you today? Will the Son of God be born through you to the people you meet today?

Will you be overshadowed?

  1. What a beautiful thought! Thanks Amy. I try to allow the Holy Spirit to walk with me & shine through me at all times. But I must say many times I fail! Thanks, for bringing that scripture to life in a new way.
