Dainty Morsels

Mmmmm...

Morsels.....

Dainty Morsels....

Are you envisioning them with me yet?

Can you see those last deliciously moist crumbs of cake littering the dessert plate in your mind along with a smudge or two of silky smooth chocolate icing? Dainty little morsels begging you to escort them directly to your tastebuds.....

The last bite of velvety cheesecake with just a smidge of it's graham cracker crust still intact....

A chunk of a warm, fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookie, breaks off stretching the chocolate chip for what seems like a cookie mile....Mmmm. A dainty morsel that is...

Don't get up and go to the kitchen! I mean it! Stick with me here! You Made to Crave friends probably think I have regressed!  I have not.  I promise.

What do you think of when you hear the words dainty morsels?

Morsels, no matter how dainty they are, are not good for my back side, if you know what I mean, and they certainly aren't good for my front side either.

Speaking of morsels, check out this verse I read in my Bible reading this past week:

Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one's heart.
Proverbs 18:8

That was from the New Living Translation, here it is from the New American Standard:

The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels,
and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.

When someone starts to tell you something, sometimes it is as appetizing to listen as it is to scrape up that last crumb of cheesecake.  We tend to lean in and savor the words being said to us....Just like we savor those dainty morsels as they cross over our lips, land on our tongue as we close our eyes shutting everything out except for the flavor we are after.

What's that old saying?

A moment on the lips, means a lifetime on the hips????

I guess we can comparitively say the same thing with those dainty morsels contained in conversations we get into.   What does this verse say happens with these dainty morsels?

They sink.

They go down.

Where?

Deep into your heart.

Into your innermost parts.

We've all had something said to us at one time or another about someone else that we did not know that went down deep into our hearts, forever changing our opinion of that person.  We close our eyes to shut everything else out so that we can experience the deliciousness of the flavor, and sometimes once that dainty morsel has entered, we close the eyes of our hearts and savor what we've heard, shutting everything else out.

Even the truth.

Sad, but true.

Whether what was said was true or not.

It sinks, down deep.

A moment on the lips, means a lifetime on the hips.....Dainty morsels make for a heavy heart.....

Neither is good for us.

Instead of ingesting those deceptively dainty morsels, we can do something else -

We can follow Philippians 4:8 and choose to dwell on whatever we know about that person that is right, pure, lovely, of good repute, excellent, and worthy of praise.   We must practice this immediately though, before that ugly morsel sinks.... Better yet, let's all go on a morsel diet and turn our ears off to the words of a whisperer, as the New American Standard states it, it's just better for everyone all the way around.

Love you gals, have a blessed week.

Wow, you really have a way of getting a reader's attention with all that talk of chocolate icing and cheesecake! ( : Your post really hit home with me. During one of my many not-so-steller times, a series of my bad choices resulted in my life as the latest morsel on an already-overflowing platter. The judgements and glares, oh how they stung! For many years I was bound in chains, mostly of my own design, although steadily reinforced with an accusation here and there. Praise God that He frees me time and again from carrying that burden. I may still pick it up every once in a while, but I don’t carry it nearly as long or nearly as far. (Even writing this comment is a step closer to accepting complete freedom.) That trial cautioned me to keep my tongue, my ears, and my accusatory nature in check. I don’t do it perfectly, by any means. I do know from experience that it is isolating and painful to be a morsel prepared for feast.
Deeper compassion and deeper love wins people to Christ. Morsels satisfy for only a moment, leaving a deeper hunger for more of those destructive nuggets. Thank you, Amy, for this reminder – not only about the morsels, but also about the objects of those morsels: the people behind the talk. I needed to hear it!
